Sketch Puzzle for July 11, 2010

We hope you had a wonderful day off last week and are excited to bring you this week’s sketch puzzle. I love the colors in this one. Let me tell you a little about the sketch.

This sketch features 2 non standard sized images or photos, matted together on an solid background. You could even crop them to a smaller size and add an area for some additional journalling if desired. The solid background could also be exchanged for a pattern or even adorned with some additional embellishment like lace or ribbon. After the images are matted, the single piece is them mounted onto a framed page with a large print banner going from the top of the page to the bottom of the page. I chose to depict the banner with a bold and bright floral design. I picked a color from the floral design to mimic and use as an accent color for the title. And the title is a font called “Brandy”.

Enjoy the puzzle!

How to Ensure Your Scrapbook Page is Not Cluttered

Many people may not even realize that they are in (at a home) or looking at (on a scrapbook page) what most would realize is clutter. Just like the “clutter” around one’s home with things, so can be a scrapbook page that is over stuffed and no central focal point. But how can you tell the difference between clutter and necessary things? How can you really tell?

Look at your scrapbook page. Take a step back and really look. When you create a scrapbook page there is typically an item like a photo or a memento that you want to highlight. This is what should always remain your focal point. Can you see the main focal point of your page? You can highlight the focal point item with some embellishments, matting, borders and such. However, if you add too many things to a page it will become cluttered. Ask yourself if all those embellishments and other decorations are complimenting or distract your focal point? When you look at the page can you easily see what you’re trying to commemorate or does it get lost in all the other elements? What do you really notice? If you can barely see the photo or the embellishments overwhelm and detracts from the photo, then you can consider having crossed the line to clutter.

Take a look at the following two scrapbook page examples and compare. This illustrates how in one page you can clearly see the focal point more than in the other.

Wanting to add all those beautiful decorations is nice but when it detracts from the main element and the focal point of your page then they lose their purpose. Take away a few pieces and see if that doesn’t make things look more attractive. Remember, you can always add those beautiful decorations to another page so don’t think they’re going to waste!

Happy July 4th, 2010

Sketch Puzzle for June 27, 2010

This weeks sketch was originally featured in the WeScrap Sketchy Saturday forum. The design was from Calia and it was posted by holly_m from the Inspiration Team. Let me tell you a little about the sketch…

Two photos or images can be featured using this sketch. A single word or title is located below the centered photos and a large journalling area is located on the right side of the page in a column. There are some suggestions for embellishment placement but you could use your own creativity to change this a bit and add those special touches wherever you believe would best enhance your own scrapbook page.

So, here is the puzzle for you to solve. Good luck and have fun!
