Tip Tuesday ~ Journaling
Journaling on your scrapbook pages is one of the most important aspects of scrapbooking. You want to make sure that not only do your photos speak volumes but also any details of the situation get expressed in words as well.
Here are a few tips to assist you in journaling all about your photos!
Bored of journaling in simple and blah shaped journaling blocks? Why not try journaling directly around the edge of your photo. How about journaling along a flourish shape or above a curved line of paper. Easy and simple!
Travel journaling is often hard to do. You have so many details and new experiences to write about. How about picking up some postcards along the way and journal on the backs. Heck.. why not even address them to yourself and send them home so they will contain neat items like a interesting postage stamp or a picture of something along the way. Also, take along a small notebook to write down your thoughts each day. Make notes about where you traveled, what you did, your feelings and any details that were maybe funny or meaningful to you.
Leave the front page and/or the last page of your albums blank to contain a summary type page. You know… something to introduce you to the contents of the album or a summery of the topic of your completed album.
Don’t forget to get some journaling from another person’s point of view to add to your scrapbooks. Ask your kids, friends or spouse what they remember about the event and write the details according to their perspective. You’d be surprised the things they will remember differently from your experience.
And as much as we may not like our own handwriting, remember what a warm and fuzzy feeling you got when you see handwritten letters, recipes or notes from your Mom or your Grandmother? By handwriting your journaling, you are not only giving the person viewing the book a glimpse more into the photo, but you are also giving them a piece of yourself.
Remember that journaling on your pages leaves a legacy of the photo you are scrapbooking. It doesn’t have to be a novel! Just a simple date or location can be sufficient enough too.
Don’t forget there are all kinds of resources to assist you in getting started. The CCAS Resource Wiki is a great source of journaling prompts, quotes and journaling ideas!
Happy journaling!
