Tutorial Thursday ~ Black & White Photos

Friday, April 18th, 2008

I love using black and white photos on my layouts.  Since there is no colour to have to match to your paper and embellishments, you can use almost anything with these kind of photos.

Heidi wrote a fabulous tutorial on converting your coloured photos to black and white images in the CCAS Wiki HERE.

Enjoy!

Wordy Wednesday

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

This week’s word is:

Carefree

1: free from care

2:  having no worries or troubles

With the carefree, lazy days of summer upon us I thought it would be great to use the word carefree in a layout. I did the following layout for The Sisterhood of Scrap blog mystery envelope challenge. It is of Emmy and DD and how carefree thier summer days were. This photo was taken while at the school carnival. I love how cute they look. How innocent. How carefree.

I would love for you to be inspired to create something using this week’s word. It can be in your title, your photo(s) or your subject. Don’t forget that if you complete any sketch puzzle challenge, Monday challenge, wordy Wednesday challenge or submit a tip for Tip Tuesday then you will automatically be entered to win this month’s Blog Prize!! So get scrapping and either send them to me at( thynner5@yahoo.ca ) or link them in the blog!~Tara~

Tip Tuesday ~ Ribbons and Things!

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

Here are a few tips about using ribbons, fibers and things….

1. DO use floss threaders to get larger ribbons and those crazy fibers through smaller holes works like a charm. You can get them at your local dollar store.

2. DO cut it at an angle and pull the point through and trim.

3. DO wrap tape around it for a firmer end.

4. DO dip in liquid glue and roll for a firm tip to thread through.

5. DO use a tapestry needle.

6. DON’T lick it! Any part that touches your project will sure to age quickly causing discoloration spots. Not to mention all the bacteria that’s in your mouth! If you have to lick it then be sure to use a mouth rinse before hand! LOL!7.  Don’t have the right colour of fiber to match your project? You can chalk, ink or paint fibers the colors you want. They’ll match perfectly.

8.  Use clear finger nail polish or fray stop on the end of ribbons for that non-frayed look!!

9.  When trying to thread a hard object like a button, use a needle threader and place it through the button holes, slide your thread through the wire and pull the needle thread wire out.  Voila!  Your button hole is threaded!

10. Adhere the ends of your ribbon or fiber on the back of your pages by using the leftover sticky paper pieces between all those stickers you have in your stash.

If you would like a chance to win this month’s Blog Prize then complete any challenge, send in a tip or technique or use one of the Friday fonts on a layout or card. Send your images of your projects to Tara at: thynner5@yahoo.ca and put “CCAS Blog” in the subject line.

Challenge Monday

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Since I’ve been taking it easy on everyone this month I thought I would make things a little more challenging!!

I would like to see you alter something. It could be something as small as a CD or coaster or something as big as a canvas. There are no limits or guidelines. You have full creative reign to do what you would like to do.

Here is an altered Composition Book I did. I purchased the book for $2.00 and away I went. I have always wanted a spot to put my sketches in. I have been using random sheets and scraps of paper. I have been creating a massive collection of loose papers. Now I can have them all in one book!

I used a funky line by Love Elsie. I have to admit that I looked at the adhesive backed fabric paper and thought…. “huh”?? It is perfect for covering a book. A friend of mine at weScrap even used the Love Elsie fabric and made an adorable heart to adorn her lovely daughter’s t-shirt!!

Please email your creation to me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca and put “CCAS Blog Challenge” in the subject line. You could also link it to me here on the blog.

All creations will earn you a ballot into the Monthly Blog Draw! Look for a sneak peek at this month’s prize pack later this week! Good Luck.

I wanted to share an entry I received for last week’s Felt challenge. This lovely creation was sent in by Jacqueline. I adore everything. The colors, the pictures and the adorable handmade felt owl! Jacqueline has earned a ballot for this month’s draw. Thanks again for letting me post it on the blog!
