Tutorial Thursday: Photo Cards

Friday, July 18th, 2008

By Renee Zieglmeier - Design Team Member

April 2007

I love cardmaking, but sometimes I just get in a rut. Thats when I switch things up a bit and print about a dozen or so copies of my current favorite photos. I love photographing flowers, leaves and everyday objects. These photos would just be beautiful card fronts. To make it a little more personable to the recepient, why not use up some of those leftover stickers and rub ons you’ve been hoarding for months?
Supplies needed:

Multiple copies of photographic prints

Leftover Stickers, Saying stickers/Quote, themed, alphas (you know you all have a stash!)

Misc Rub Ons

Photo Corners

Cardstock

Adhesive
Step 1- Find a photo to create your card with, find some stickers/rub ons that would work well with the picture.

image:apr2007_cards1.jpg

Step 2- Make copies of the favored print or find a variety of photos that will comply with your sticker sentiments. Place your sticker/rub on in desired position on photograph.

image:apr2007_cards2.jpg

Step 3- Adhere your photo to cardstock and add photo corner and embellish as you wish.

Here are my 3 favorite cards I made using this technique.

Birthday Boy- Train Photograph Card- Sticker placed vertically, thin white border around photo, misc. cardstock for card base

image:apr2007_cards3.jpg

Crisp and Cool- Crispy leaf dusted with some snow; Clear EK Success Sticker, Quickutz Photo Corners cut out of Bazzill Bling Cardstock, Misc Cardstock for card base

image:apr2007_cards4.jpg

Happy Birthday- Photo of Crazy Daisies- “Happy” metal embellishment and clear “Birthday” sticker, Quickutz Photo Corner Dies cut out of Chatterbox Paper, Misc Cardstock for card base

image:apr2007_cards5.jpg

On the backs of the cards, I printed up some small ‘Photography by Renee’ labels along with my email address should the recipient want to get their hands on more of my cards! This is a great way to advertise your photography and papercrafting talents!

This tutorial and many others can be found in the CCAs Resources Wiki.

Wordy Wednesday - Nature

Friday, July 18th, 2008

This week’s word is: Nature

1. the natural world as it exists without human beings or civilization

2. the elements of the natural world, as mountains, trees, animaks, or rivers

3. natural scenery

4. characteristic disposition; temperament: a self-willed nature; an evil nature.

This word can be used in so many ways. It is such a peaceful word :) I used it in the following layout I did for Scrapdango’s Scrap Me UP Challenge. I was given these wonderful photos from Jackie and asked to make a page with them. I used the word in my title. I also left the chipboard in it’s natural state.  This layout was based on a sketch that Ally designed for the So Sketchy Blog. I used a wonderful collection of papers from Scrapdango’s Sugar kit.

I would love for you to be inspired to create something using this week’s word. It can be in your title, your photo(s) or your subject. Don’t forget that if you complete any sketch puzzle challenge, Monday challenge, wordy Wednesday challenge or submit a tip for Tip Tuesday then you will automatically be entered to win this month’s Blog Prize!! So get scrapping and either send them to me at( thynner5@yahoo.ca ) or link them in the blog.

Tip Tuesday - Photo Storage

Friday, July 18th, 2008

These tips are from the CCAS Resources Wiki:

Photo Storage Tips by Renee

Attics and Basements - The worst places to store your photographs or documents is in an uninsulated attic or basement. In the summer, temperatures in an attic could reach 125 degrees F. while in the winter they can get down to less than 0 degrees. With the constant high temperatures and humidity in the summer and low temperatures and humidity in the winter, the photographs or documents will become brittle. In severe cases, the emulsion (image) on the photograph can separate from the base (paper). These cyclic conditions will have a devastating effect on any paper product.

Uninsulated basements are usually moist which can cause photographs to stick to each other. Another problem encountered in basements is that they are great breeding grounds for insects and rodents which are strongly attracted to gelatin and cellulose in the photographic emulsion.

The best places to store important photographs or documents are in a safe deposit box at your bank. They are usually climate controlled and kept dark to provide almost ideal storage conditions. The ideal storage conditions are 68 degrees +/- 2 degrees and 50% relative humidity +/- 5% relative humidity.

I am so guilty of storing my pics in my uninsulated basement, I have had several all stuck together! If your photos are in these conditions, get them to a safe dry place now!!!

Challenge Monday

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

It’s time to post another weekly challenge! This one is as all about color…. or lack thereof!!

Yep… it’s about Black and White!! I would like to see you create a layout using only black and white. No color is to be added…. anywhere! It’s easier than you think.

Here is a layout I did of my girls. I converted the photo to a deep black and white and went from there.

Please email your creation to me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca and put “CCAS Blog Challenge” in the subject line. You could also link it to me here on the blog.

All creations will earn you a ballot into the Monthly Blog Draw! Look for a sneak peek at this month’s prize pack later this week! Good Luck.
