Tip Tuesday - Stamping

This Tuesday’s tips are for all those stampers out there!

Cleaning: Keep some hot water and soap in a bowl on a table away from you so you can soak your stamps for easy cleanup then a small towel.  You can also use a stamp cleaner pad and solution or unscented baby wipes as well.

Tools: A brayer is like a small rubber paint roller. Depending on how you ink the brayer, you can achieve varying results including a wash of color, borders, edges, repetitive patterns, and more. Simply roll the brayer over your ink pad, using a roll-and-lift motion. (A back-and-forth motion will ink the same spot on the brayer.) Roll the brayer onto your project as desired. Ink specific areas, lines, or patterns on the brayer with color markers, too.

Masking: You can use post-it notes to mask off the areas that you don’t want to stamp ink on.  You can also create mini masks out of post-it notes to mask off entire stamped images.

Stamping with Bleach: Use a dark coloured cardstock when stamping with bleach.  Always test your stamp with the cardstock to ensure you get the desired effect you want.  Don’t allow areas that have wet bleach to touch your photos.  Apply your bleached image after it is completely dry to avoid damage to your photos.

Your Collection: Make a stamp reference book with all of your stamp images.  This allows for a fast and easy reference of your entire stamp collection.

Storage: There are a variety of different ways to store your unmounted stamps.  Some companies have developed special binders but a quick and fairly cheap storage solution is store them in clear CD cases.  Generally you can fill both inside covers with stamps since they don’t tend to be very thick.
