Tutorial Thursday

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I have this cool tutorial from Jen.

Making Your Own Monograms

Have you ever tried looking for a monogram to match a layout you are doing and end up changing the entire layout to match the monograms you have?
Monograms are actually very easy to make. You can make them in various sizes and print them on whichever patterned paper you are working with.
To get started, you need a software program similar to Photoshop Elements.
Start a new document, 8″ x 10″ and 300 dpi with a white background.
In the Tool Palette, choose the text tool (a capital T).
In text properties box, choose your font and set the size you would like to use. I typically choose a very large font size, such as 400 or 500 points.
Type in the letter for your monogram.
Now, you need to change the color of the letter to a very pale color before you print it. Click on the color option, choose more colours (color picker). I tend to use f2f2f2 to get a very light gray. You want the colour to be light enough to not be seen through your patterned paper, but dark enough that you will be able to see it to cut it out.
Before you print the monogram, you need to create a mirror of the letter. Choose image, rotate and flip on the horizontal.
You now have the mirror image and are ready to print the monogram onto the reverse side of your patterned paper.
Once printed, cut out the monogram and adhere it to your layout.

Word Wednesday

Friday, September 5th, 2008

This week’s word is: Smile

1 : a facial expression in which the eyes brighten and the corners of the mouth curve slightly upward and which expresses especially amusement, pleasure, approval, or sometimes scorn

2 : a pleasant or encouraging appearance

This word can be used in so many ways because it means so many things. I made the following layout for The Scrapping Bug.  I used the wonderful Scenic Route Appleton Line. I love the bright, fresh colors of these papers!

I used the word Smile as my title choice in this layout of Paige and her lovely back to school smile.

I would love for you to be inspired to create something using this week’s word. It can be in your title, your photo(s) or your subject. Don’t forget that if you complete any sketch puzzle challenge, Monday challenge, wordy Wednesday challenge or submit a tip for Tip Tuesday then you will automatically be entered to win this month’s Blog Prize!! So get scrapping and either send them to me at( thynner5@yahoo.ca ) or link them in the blog.

Tip Tuesday

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

Here is a quick and simple tip for you today:

Do you have cute notes and sentimental letters sitting around the house? Do you have a box of them sitting in a closet? Why not bring them out and place them on your next scrapbook page?

I have alot of letters from my Grandmother that I have saved and I want to use them in my heritage album. Lovely, old letters that my Grandmother and Grandfather sent to eachother during the war. I am looking forward to using them.

I had a note from Paige’s SK teacher. She sent this home on her last day of school in June. I have had it on my fridge all summer and I was afraid it would get ruined. I decided to incorporate it on my next scrapbook page. It became the focal page of my layout.

Bring out your love notes, special letters and keepsakes and put them on your pages!! Don’t hide them… showcase them.

You can send in your random tips to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot in this month’s blog prize draw!!

Challenge Monday

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

It’s time to show me your frames. I would like to see you frame something on your layout. It can be a photo, quote, or journaling. You can use any scrapbooking embellishment, paint, words or some digital frame. Use your imagination.

Here is a layout I did for Valerie Salmon’s Sketch 102 class. I chose to showcase lovely, Olive. I had a frame that I covered in paint and then stickled to add some bling!

Please email your creation to me at: thynner5@yahoo.ca and put “CCAS Blog Challenge” in the subject line. You could also link it to me here on the blog.

All creations will earn you a ballot into the Monthly Blog Draw!
