A friend of mine asked me the other day how to stamp on fabric and I was instantly reminded of this great tip from one of our old CCAS members, Brenda:

Stamped fabric embellishments

Submitted by Brenda
Prepare your fabric by ironing it to remove any wrinkles or creases. Use an iron-on stabilizer or interfacing on the back of the fabric to add a little stability. (This step isn’t necessary if you’re using a heavy fabric like canvas or denim.) Using dye ink, stamp your design on the front of the fabric and let it dry for a minute or two, or heat set by using a warm iron and press cloth.
If you want to cut shapes from your stamped fabric, like the flowers on my sample layout, turn your fabric over and trace or draw your design on the stabilizer side. If you’re tracing a monogram or letter, just be sure to trace the reverse image so the letter is facing the correct way when the fabric is right side up. You can draw your design with a pencil or pen; just draw lightly so the lines don’t show through on the right side. Stitch around the traced design, then cut closely around the stitched lines and you’ll have a nice stamped fabric embellishment.
For a slightly different look, stamp on white or light cream fabric, then add some color to your stamped image with chalk, dyes, or dye ink. In my layout, I stamped on wide white rickrack, then colored in the image with pink and green chalks.
Stamped fabric can be used in so many ways – stamp your cardstock and fabric to match for perfectly coordinated pages, cut stamped fabric into strips for borders or to use in place of ribbon, cut your fabric with decorative edge scissors to resemble rickrack or trim, make large fabric monograms, tags or photo mats. There are tons of possibilities!

For more great scrapbooking tips please check out the Resource section of CCAS!

If you have a great tip to share with us email it to me at thynner5@yahoo.ca to earn a ballot for this month’s Blog Prize!

I am always on the look out for things to use in my next crafting adventure you just never know when inspiration will strike. Well a couple of weekends ago I was at the MN Quilt show in Duluth and honestly scrapping was the last thing on my mind when I walked in the door. However, all of that changed when I came across Susan’s booth for Nifty Thrifty Dry Goods.

I thought my eyes had deceived me but I was in awe of all the colors, sizes, and textures of ribbon, trim and fibers arranged by color. After making my selection and paying I found out that most of there stock was online and that Susan had very generously gave me a coupon code for 10% of my purchases until 8/31/09! Well in anticipation for todays blog post I called up Susan and asked if I could share the savings with you.

Her answer was YES! So for my last post for this week I am sharing with you the code: MQA 609
Enjoy the discount and thanks for playing along with me this week.

Don ‘t forget that Tara’s Celebration Blog Challenges are due on the 30th of June. There are 9 sponsored parizes up for grabs!

Times are tough and money is tight so look around your house for things you can use on your scrapbook pages. It not only will save money but its a great way to be “Green”.

Things to look for:
1. Buttons: Use the extra ones that come with your new clothes or take them off kids clothing that they have grown out of.
2. Mesh: I love magic mesh but did you know that dry wall tape is pretty much the same thing all you have to do is color it. I also save mesh bags like the ones that some of my daughters toys have come in as you can see from my wild things lo. (Tara I have included the image to add as an example here)
3. Office supplies: paper clips, brads, staples are all probably stuck in your junk drawer. Why not clean it out and use something on a scrapbook page. Did you know that office style brads can be colored with spray paint and even old nail polish?
4. Gift wrap: Fussy cut some images from your gift warp, use tissue paper like mulberry paper they make cool flowers and you can use it to make some cool pattern papers with a mixture of glue and water.
5. Jewelry: do you have any costume jewelry collecting dust? Take pieces apart and use them to add a little bling to your pages.
With a little creativity and imagination you can bring some “Green” to your pages and keep a little “Green” in your pocket. Here is my “Green” layout:
